Traditional or Distance Learning: Which One to Choose?
Through the past years, decades and centuries, we have been accustomed to traditional education wherein the student travels to school every day to take up lessons and classes. This pattern goes on and on from primary to tertiary level. And no one seems to act against it. However, the advances in technology have made a number of changes as far as education is concerned.
Nowadays, both children and college students can take up their education through distance learning. This only means that the student can take up and finish his course even without leaving his home. It certainly sounds more convenient than everyday travelling. However, there are several strong and weak points that any interested student should consider:
It is not easy to accommodate change, but when it happens you will have no choice but to accept it as reality. However, in relation to the subject matter at hand, you always have a choice whether you will embrace what you have come to know or accept the new alternative.

It certainly sounds more convenient than everyday travelling. However, there are several strong and weak points that any interested student should consider:
- Distance learning provides more opportunities for students to manage their own time – Because students have control over their own schedule, they can engage in more activities. This convenience is perfect for those who are employed.
- It enables students to become independent in their learning process – Online learning strategies provide a number of options for students to explore.
- Students are allowed to learn on their own pace – Depending on the allotted time and skill of the student, he can lengthen or shorten his study sessions.
- Students may become dependent on the Internet – Because almost everything can be found on the Web, they may prefer not to study because the Internet will supply answers to their questions anyway.
- They may procrastinate because they are the ones holding their time – Without someone pushing them like in traditional education, students may not take learning seriously.
- They may not become familiar with the outside world – Because they are just stuck at home, they might be surprised once they get out and into the real world.
